Propeller scene in Blow-up

So, I re-watched Blow-Up yesterday (which by the way, I thought was not so interesting when I saw it the first time, but a FASCINATING movie when I watched slowly, carefully, and wow everything kinda makes sense now!) and why did the photographer buy the propeller? It appears completely useless.
In fact, why does he like buying stuff so much, like why did he want to buy that painting from Bill? And why does he want to buy that antique shop? Is it just to show that he's rich, or is there some other meaning behind that?

I'm not sure myself but have you tried looking at things like perhaps between what events in the movie did the purchase and even also the arrival of the propeller take place? or what is the relation characters (probably just the main character) seem to have with it?

Also, I'm interested to know if you found an explanation for the guitar scene which I thought was equally random?

Hope that helps(?)
Tom

I'm trying to figure this out too. I have this feeling that it can somehow be related to the final scene. He takes the non-material tennis ball and once he plays along with their imaginary game, the sound of tennis can be heard.

so maybe it should be related to materialism?

thats a possibility, everything in his little studio pretty much has no meaning to it, the women, the stuff he buys, as soon as its in he doesn't really care about it. Could be related to the close camera angels.

For the prop, I really dunno. The arrival of the prop was while Hemmings and Redgraves were topless. He had bought it after taking the pictures of her at the park. Hmmm... I don't think it ever appears in the movie again.

For the guitar, I think it's to show that in the concert, everyone wanted it. But now that Hemmings took the guitar and left the concert, he doesn't need it/want it anymore... it is completely worthless and meaningless. It only had meaning because of the meaning everybody else in the concert put into it.

Hey Kyle and Tom, are you guys both doing your papers on Blow-Up?

Nope, I did my draft on Virginia Woolf, just like to talk about these things I guess.

I think the prop appears again after he finds out about the murder. He goes back to the big room and taps his prop once with his foot.. if I remember correctly.

Hope that offers more clues.
